POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—Sophomore striker Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) registered two goals and an assist as the fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer defeated Vassar College 4-0 in Liberty League action this afternoon on Prentiss Field.

Herons’ senior midfielder Steph Gridley(Auburn/Auburn, N.Y) opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Burnett-Kurie stole a Vassar pass and fed a streaking Gridley, who split the Brewer defense, and slipped the ball past Brewer goalkeeper Lisa Strumwasser into the left corner of the net. Burnett-Kurie tallied her first of two goals in the 19th minute when she followed up her initial shot and slid the ball into the back corner of the net. William Smith closed out the first half scoring on a header from junior Alex Rieben (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) that was set up by a corner kick from senior Pria Young (Council Rock/Richboro, Pa.).

In the 67th minute, Burnett-Kurie netted her Liberty League leading 14th goal of the season on a header. Senior midfielder Kate Warner (Gould Academy/Glouster, Mass.) generated the scoring opportunity off a direct kick.

Herons’ junior netminder Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) made five stops to record her Division III leading 12th shutout of the season. In 13 games, William Smith has only surrendered one goal.

The Herons will return to conference action on Oct. 22 when they travel to Rensselaer for a 2 p.m. start.
